THE PROBLEM

 

• Federal Way has inadequate services for homeless people, especially during the day.  

 

• No showers and laundry facilities are available on a predictable, consistent basis.  

 

• Homeless lack an address and access to a computer to aid in job search & applications.  

• There is no source of all up-to-date listings of resources within the area for food, shelter, clothing, counseling, etc.  Each organization lists only those relating to the services they offer. 

 

 

 GOALS OF THE DAY CENTER 

 

• To provide social and emotional support.

 

• To enable confidence in those served to move toward self-sufficiency.  

 

• To meet basic human needs of cleanliness.

 

• To provide the homeless with a mailing address, which is a step toward independence and aids in lessening the negative impact of homelessness.

 

• To minimize the impact of the homeless using the library, shopping malls and hospital emergency rooms.
